Manage users, roles, and permissions in /IOTCONNECT™. Control who can access what through role-based access control (RBAC) with granular solution-level permissions.
/IOTCONNECT™ provides comprehensive user and role management to secure your IoT platform. User management enables adding team members to your organization. Role management defines what each user can do within the platform. Permissions are assigned per role, providing fine-grained control over module access. Users are assigned to entities, which controls their data visibility across the hierarchy.
Users are team members who access the /IOTCONNECT™ portal. Each user account contains the following properties:
Email: The login credential used to authenticate into the platform.
First / Last Name: The user’s display name within the portal.
Role Assignment: Determines what actions the user can perform.
Entity Assignment: Controls which devices and data the user can see.
Status: Active or Inactive state to enable or disable access.
Create users from the Users > User section in the left navigation menu.
Roles define access levels within /IOTCONNECT™. Each role specifies what a user can see and do across the platform modules.
Role Name: A descriptive identifier for the role (e.g., Admin, Operator, Viewer).
Role Description: A summary of the role’s purpose and intended audience.
Allow Access to Solution: Select which solutions / subscriptions the role can access from a checkbox list.
Permissions: Granular module-level access control including Devices, Templates, Rules, Firmware, Users, Settings, and more.
Custom Roles: Create unlimited roles beyond the default admin role to match your organizational needs.
Follow these steps to create a role in /IOTCONNECT™:
Step 1: Navigate to Users > Role & Permissions from the left menu.
Step 2: Click the + button to create a new role.
Step 3: Enter the Role Name and Description.
Step 4: Check the solutions under “Allow Access To Solution” that this role should be able to access.
Step 5: Click Save to create the role.
Step 6: Assign this role to users during user creation or by editing existing users.
Follow these steps to create a user in /IOTCONNECT™:
Step 1: Navigate to Users > User from the left menu.
Step 2: Click the + button to add a new user.
Step 3: Enter First Name, Last Name, and Email address.
Step 4: Select a Role from the dropdown list.
Step 5: Select an Entity (this determines what data the user can see).
Step 6: Set Contact Number and Time Zone.
Step 7: Click Save — the user will receive an invitation email to activate their account.
Users inherit entity visibility from their assigned entity. A user in ‘Building A’ entity sees all devices in Building A and its child entities (Floor 1, Floor 2, etc.) but cannot see devices in other buildings.
