WebSocket Connector

WebSocket Connector

Stream device telemetry via direct WebSocket connections to custom applications. Provides low-latency, bidirectional communication for real-time data streaming to mobile apps, desktop applications, and external visualization tools.

What is WebSocket

WebSocket is a communication protocol that provides full-duplex (two-way) communication channels over a single TCP connection. Unlike HTTP request-response patterns, WebSocket keeps the connection open for continuous real-time data exchange.

Key Features:

Low Latency: Single persistent connection eliminates HTTP overhead for each data point.

Bidirectional: Both server-to-client and client-to-server communication on the same connection.

Protocol Agnostic: Send raw JSON, binary, or custom formats without HTTP framing overhead.

Universal Support: Supported in all modern browsers, mobile platforms, and programming languages.

Scalable: Handle thousands of concurrent connections with minimal server resources.

How it Works

When the WebSocket connector is enabled, /IOTCONNECT™ pushes live telemetry to your WebSocket endpoint:

Client connects → Your application opens a WebSocket connection to the provided endpoint URL.

Device sends data → Telemetry arrives at /IOTCONNECT™ from devices.

Data streamed → Each telemetry message is pushed to all connected WebSocket clients in real time.

Client processes → Your application receives JSON payloads and renders or processes them.

User Manual

Step 1: Navigate to Connector Settings

Go to Settings > Configuration > Live Data Streaming in the /IOTCONNECT™ portal.

Step 2: Enable WebSocket

Find the WebSocket connector card and toggle the switch to ON (green).

Step 3: Select Data Types

Choose which data to stream: Telemetry, Faulty, Diagnostics.

Step 4: Get Connection URL

After enabling, the WebSocket connection URL and authentication token are displayed. Use these in your client application.

Step 5: Save

Click Save. The WebSocket endpoint becomes active.

Step 6: Connect Your Client

Use any WebSocket client library to connect and start receiving live telemetry data in JSON format.

Use Cases

Mobile Apps: Stream live sensor data to iOS/Android applications for real-time monitoring.

Custom Visualization: Build custom D3.js, Chart.js, or Three.js visualizations with live data feeds.

Gaming/Simulation: Feed real IoT sensor data into simulation environments or digital twins.

External Platforms: Integrate live data into third-party platforms that support WebSocket input.

Desktop Applications: Build native desktop monitoring tools with real-time telemetry feeds.

ⓘ NOTE

WebSocket connections require authentication tokens for security. Implement reconnection logic in your client to handle network interruptions gracefully. Available for both AWS and Azure deployments.
